Unique and Exclusive Triangular-Mount Tube

This exclusive and unique triangular-mount tube provides exceptional strength and absorbs the load stress from wind, rain and/or snow loads. Believe me, I know from experience.

I arrived home and found my 34'-wide retractable deck awning fully extended and full of water. I simply retracted the awning; and as it retracted, I estimated 50 gallons of water poured out of the awning. I will admit I held my breath while my trusty awning retracted. I held my breath again as I extended the deck awning.

There was no damage at all. I did add a sun and wind sensor so I wouldn't have to worry about that happening again.

I realize retractable deck awnings are not intended to withstand water and snow loads. Our awnings for decks are designed to absorb stress loads many of our competitors simply can’t.

Sundown High-Wind Awnings and Grand Awnings use a proprietary Swiss- designed, gas-powered telescopic arm. The unique aspect of these arms is that they provide a constant tension on the awning fabric. The awning cover remains flat, smooth and wrinkle free throughout the entire range of operation. These powerful telescopic arms provide more wind-gust resistance and helps with better water run off.

The adjustable hood keeps fabric clean. Without this feature, you can get a stripe if there is a space between the hood and the fabric

The Sundown deck awnings, using lateral arms, provide unusual strength as demonstrated above. The awning on this deck has suffered through three snow storms and is still undamaged.

This is no way to treat a deck awning. :-(

Sundown lateral arms are tested to over 10,000 cycles insuring maximum reliability.

Aircraft-quality, double 3MM stainless steel cables with nylon coating plus internal “CLASS C” heavy-duty springs protected in a PVC housing insures quiet trouble-free operation.

Corrosion-free construction and superior design assures long, trouble-free operation.

I almost forgot... Our arm knuckles are die cast with a special hardening process plus a bearing system for extraordinarily SMOOTH operation.

I installed one of those lesser “quality” (cheap) patio awnings at a gal's house. She used to park her Lincoln under the awning. She called one day and said the awning fell on her Lincoln. UH OH!

I sped over to her house and found the steel arm cable had corroded through and broke. This allowed the arm to collapse and the front bar dropped hitting her Lincoln. We had to replace both arms as the motion of dropping twisted the other arm making it useless. I never sold that brand of retractable deck awning again!!

The Sundown Grand and High Wind awnings use proprietary Telescopic arms that are gas powered with spring assist.

These specially engineered telescopic arms are significantly stronger than any lateral arm system. One of the unique advantages of the telescopic system is they provide consistent tension throughout the extension and retraction operation of the patio awning assuring a wrinkle-free, smooth and no-sag awning cover.

The time proven use of extruding and the use of a permanent-molding process for knuckles and hinges is the strongest and most reliable manufacturing process for parts utilized in stressed environments such as retractable deck awnings.

All mounting brackets, hoods and snap-on hood brackets are an extruded aluminum alloy with a powder-coat finish available in white; other colors available upon request.

Mounting brackets, hood and clip-on accessory brackets are produced using the latest manufacturing techniques. The simple snap-together design simplifies the patio awning installation greatly.

Motorization options are available and motor operators are even available with manual overrides for manual retraction or extension if desired.

The awning is engineered for extremely quiet operation. This is a VERY NICE feature!

Bevel gears are the smoothest and strongest manual-operator systems available.

The gear uses a simple bevel gear. Crank turns for one, awning-tube turn are based on the operating reduction ratio that makes for a smooth and easy manual operation of the retractable awning.

Bevel Gear manual gear operators for 2-arm awnings use a 1:3.5 operating ratio and Bevel Gear manual operators for 3- to 4-arm awnings use a 1:4.5 operating ratio. Patio awnings and deck awnings with more than 4 arms are recommended for motorized operation.

All metal parts are powder coated using a time-proven, 5-step process.

Maximizes the durability of the finish.

Tenara Thread

All of our awning covers use Tenara thread and are sewn using computer-controlled pneumatic sewing machines. This insures consistent straight seams.

The Tenara thread has been proven to be an exceptionally stable, easy-to-sew and long-lasting product. Tenara sewing thread will not deteriorate from exposure to the elements. It's an ideal choice for sewing retractable deck and patio awnings, because it's immune to ultraviolet degradation, the primary cause of seam failure.
