Automatic Sun Protection
The DSM is in AUTO mode or "Automatic" when the AUTO indicator is lit. In this mode, the DSM monitors sun intensity via a sun sensor mounted outside. If the sun intensity, indicated on the DSM by the yellow column of lights, rises above the threshold you have selected for more than 3 minutes, the DSM will extend your awning. When a sunny day turns cloudy, the DSM detects this too - after 12 minutes of cloud cover, your awning will automatically retract.
When the DSM is not in AUTO (auto light is not lit), it is in MANUAL. Here, the DSM does not respond automatically to the sun. Use the UP, DOWN, and STOP buttons in manual mode if you wish to keep your awning in or out, or somewhere in between.

Wind Protection
An important feature of the DSM is 24 hour a day wind protection. Wind speed is indicated on the red column of lights, and if the wind speed rises above the threshold (red indicator is lit), your awning will automatically retract.
Check Your Wind Setting
...by inserting a paper clip into the small hole below the red column of lights. Using the paper clip, press the WIND SET button briefly. One of the red lights will illuminate, showing you where the threshold is currently set.

Setting the Sun & Wind Levels
To change the SUN THRESHOLD press the SET button and hold it. The first light that illuminates is the current setting. As you keep the button pressed, a different light illuminates every two seconds, indicating a change in the current setting. The setting moves up until the highest level is reached and then resets to begin again at the lowest level. You can scroll through the settings without harming the DSM, and when you remove your finger, the final light lit is your new setting.
The procedure to change the WIND THRESHOLD is the same as above, but you must use the WIND SET button, which requires a paper clip to be inserted into the small hole. BE CAREFUL - the threshold is a security measure and too high of a setting may provide inadequate protection for your awning.

Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q: It is sunny, but my awning has not extended. Why?
A: Your DSM must be in AUTO mode to react to sunny conditions (check for AUTO light on). There is a 3 minute delay before the sun will trigger your awning, when the sun intensity level is greater than the DSM sun setting. Your awning will not extend in windy conditions (when red wind indicator light is on or flashing).
Q: Why can't I extend my awning manually?
A: Wind protection is active in AUTO and MANUAL modes. Check for windy conditions (red wind indicator is on or flashing).
Q: My awning has been working fine for a few weeks. The other day it was too cloudy for my awning to come out, so I pressed the down button and sent it out. I checked the DSM and the AUTO light was on. Why didn't my awning come in when it got dark outside?
A: Your DSM needs to see a change from light to dark in order to automatically bring the awning in. Because it was cloudy and you sent the awning out manually, it did not retract automatically.
Q: Can I turn my awning off during vacation?
A: Yes, simply put your DSM in MANUAL mode by pressing the AUTO button - the DSM is in MANUAL when the AUTO indicator light is off. |
