Sun & Wind Sensors for Retractable Awnings

WIND-A-MATIC II and WIND-A-MATIC REMOTE

Description

The new SOMFY Wind-a-Matic II and Wind-a-Matic Remote are single motor controls designed for residential use. Both units feature a wind sensor, and while the Wind-a-Matic II kit comes with an elegant indoor switch, the Wind-a-Matic Remote includes an integrated radio receiver plus input terminals for an optional low voltage switch. Wind speed is continuously monitored, triggering the controls to retract awnings or lower shutters automatically as needed.

These new controls are packaged in weatherproof enclosures and include watertight strain-relief fittings for wires entering the box. They are ideal for both new construction and home improvement, installing fast and easy near the motor and reducing overall wiring costs. The Wind-a-Matic Remote uses SOMFY's new hand-held radio transmitter which features UP, DOWN, and STOP buttons.

Mechanical Specifications

  • OUTDOOR L: 7 5/8 in W: 5 1/2 in H: 5 in
  • Operating Temperature Range: -20° to 50° Celsius
  • ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Voltage Ratings:
  • INPUT: 120 VAC +/- 10% 50/60 Hz.
  • OUTPUT: 120 VAC 5A 1/4HP
  • Approvals: The Wind-A-Matic II is UL508 (pending) for industrial controls (UL, cUL)
  • Complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) Standard

Installation Instructions

1. Mount the wind sensor with the bracket as shown at right. NOTE: The wind sensor should be mounted close to the awning or shading system to ensure that wind speed is measured at the treatment. Avoid mounting sensor too close to an obstruction, such as a chimney, gutter or the awning itself, which may block the wind and cause erroneous readings. The maximum distance between sensor and control unit is 100 ft.

2. Mount the Wind-A-Matic II control close to the motor making sure the control is accessible for possible future settings.

3. Install the switch.

4. Before connecting cables and turning power on, make sure that the motorized product is working correctly. Use tester cable (Cat. No. 6020086) to set the upper and lower limits. Refer to limit switch setting instructions that accompany your motor.

Operating Instructions

Setting The Wind Level

1. The Wind-a-Matic II and Wind-a-Matic Remote are factor preset at the midpoint of the range, 22mph.

2. To change the sensitivity, simply rotate the wind adjustment knob.

System Power Up
1. Turn all circuit breakers on (all motors should remain at their previous positions).

2. Operate each motor in the DOWN direction using the optional low voltage switch, or the radio transmitter with the Wind-a-Matic Remote.

3. The motorized treatment should move down or out. If this is incorrect, turn off the circuit breakers and reverse the red and black wires of the motor.

Operating Procedures

1. Pressing the UP button on the low voltage switch or radio remote will move the window treatment up or in.

2. To stop the motorized treatment at its present position, press the STOP button.

3. When the monitored wind speed is greater than the Wind-a-Matic setting, the UP direction will activate after 2 seconds. As long as the wind speed remains high, all other commands will be ignored.

4. When the wind speed drops below the set value, the Wind-a-Matic control will return to normal operation following a very brief delay.
